there's some curious information floating around about officer hitori togusa! though he may seem like a man with a love of only the law, trusted information has it that his heart truly belongs to chocobos. he's quite the serious collector, and his love extends to even his pajamas!

It's very weird to ask this to a teacher. Are you okay? Both you and Izuku don't have powers and there were so many monsters during the convention. I don't know if they're gone yet, or if they're still there. But I hope you're okay. I hope you can also stop Izuku from being reckless, but that seems impossible. I don't know why.
[It's some time in the afternoon and he has Izuku's address, which means he... also knows Aizawa's address since they are neighbors. So he's there, knocking at Aizawa's door and looking like he hasn't slept in a few days.
Considering what a disaster this last month has been it's fairly likely.]
[It sure is the afternoon, and it sure is a weekend, so when Shouto knocks he's fortunate enough to soon find it opening to an Aizawa on the other side. He's not going to be alone on the sleep-deprived front either, apparently, because Aizawa...also looks like he hasn't slept in a few days. Maybe a whole week, honestly??? (Well, he's slept a little, but three or four hours a night isn't exactly a lot--)]
Shouto? This is unexpected. ...Sure, you alright? Something going on at your household?
[Aizawa's frowning at him. He's wearing a black shirt and sweatpants, his hair is down. There's a mug of coffee in one hand. ...Is that.....a smell of cooking fried rice, sort of faintly wafting through the doorway?? Maybe.]
[please understand that i put on the most anime background music i could find to write this tag
anyway,
Who the fuck entrusted Baren with even more anime powers? By the time nonsense started, he already absurdly acrobatic skills, but he'd only gotten more firepower since then. Black electricity crackling from his palms, an absurdly oversized knife that could spit flames and conjure up ice shields, and not one, but two animal sidekicks at his side. He's making quick work of the monsters in his path, jumping from head to head and laughing as he goes, flame-slashing and front-flipping his way through the city like some kind of demented.... anti-hero?
Aizawa might recognize Tanuki-san first as he rounds the corner, trying to make a central path as Baren is - steering a pack of Beowolf? He's on the shoulders of one, followed by others, and it's some small miracle that this is working out as they play a game of Chase that Tanuki.
Anyway, that's happening now. There's black electricity crackling all up and down Baren's arms as he powers up for a bigger shot, but in all the chaos if Aizawa wants to get out of the way, he might have to climb onto Tanuki-san—]
[i can tell that you did this and i appreciate it with all my soul......also this tag was so anime it tried to naruto run out of my inbox ftr
But anyway, not everyone can have anime powers compounded on anime powers. Some people are fortunate in this way, sure--like Baren, apparently--and then there are people like Aizawa, who are very tired and very done with these proceedings, and don't actually have a lot more to their name than a mummy scarf looped over one shoulder, a Very Normal Sword, and cowboy clothing.
Somehow the hat has still been staying on his head. That's probably not going to last much longer.
Aizawa's been picking his way through the city streets, trying to keep to the corners and buildings as opposed to straying too far out in the open, because unlike some people he's less than interested in drawing a hoard of monsters to himself. He'd been doing a very good job of it, too, or...so Aizawa had thought, anyway, until he'd rounded a corner and the veritable pack of Beowolf were on the other side. Swarming around. Chasing a...oh, he remembers this thing, the tanuki--and is that Baren, riding on a wolf back there??
He's shouting. Ah. It sure is.
Honestly the smart thing to do would probably be to turn around and leave immediately, but that would also mean leaving Baren behind. And even if Baren seems to be...having the time of his life??? That's still...something that Aizawa probably shouldn't do, at least until he can confirm that Baren's actually going to be okay over here. It's...sort of difficult to say right now....
But making any headway down this street on foot is pretty much impossible, what with. All the Beowolf, and such. Tanuki-san's right here nearby, at least, so...? Alright, no, you know what. Maybe he will. Maybe he'll climb Tanuki-san after all, because he's done weirder things in the last month at this point. So he's attempting that now, anyway, though in the process he still finds time to shout back--]
That's not my name! [Aizawa has gained like three different nicknames this month already, must he accumulate more...he refuses....] What--do I even want to ask what you're trying to do, here?! [BAREN THIS IS AN ENTIRE PACK OF BEOWOLF DO YOU LIKE...REALIZE THAT.....]
I beg your pardon? [WHAT......wait. This name is familiar, where has he--] Sorry, you'll have to refresh my memory about that a bit, the last month has been a long one. We've spoken before?
vampire prince was Nikael all along. Tristana knew and she'd been waiting for him to let it slip that whole time... she wanted to catch both Nikael and Ruleen in the act so that she could take control of the vampire court. the next arc is almost entirely about Tristana's past with Nikael and how they were to be wed, but he didn't return her feelings and that led to the engagement breaking off. this whole time I thought Tristana was jealous of Ruleen, but it's not even about Nikael anymore. she just wants her father to acknowledge her and taking control of the court is the best way to do that.
but the best part about this series is how it always does stuff you wouldn't expect. it turns out that Tristana's father, you know, the elder vampire? he took a human lover about fifty years before the book began. that changes everything. once this gets revealed to Tristana she tries digging deeper, and then she finds out that she actually has a half-sister. vampires and humans aren't supposed to produce children but this was sort of made possible by Efrya, the witch from the first book. she's been keeping an eye on the half-vampire child her whole life and guiding her from the shadows.
anyway Tristana goes after the witch and interrogates her. she finds out that she and Ruleen are actually half-sisters. so it's doubly personal now. but Ruleen isn't even sure how she feels about Nikael. he says he really loves her, like, truly-madly-deeply, to the point where he actually cries. vampires don't usually show emotion, so it was super surprising!! and Ruleen started crying too because she actually was super attracted to him but she was just hurting from all her previous relationships... and on top of that, she had her new powers to deal with.
but then Tristana
[Mercifully, the text cuts off there, perhaps to be sent to some other unsuspecting soul.]
[it starts off with a cat picture; the background's a kind of messy apartment. there's another photo of the cat curled up in an upside-down hat, a rather fancy-looking one that might look a little familiar if he's been in the bar before.]
named him rimbaud. it fits him pretty well, right?
[Ok so he may or may not have admired this pair of pictures for a bit longer than strictly necessary for a very likely misfired message.
(And that hat really is.....kind of familiar, actually?? Though he can't place where he's seen it before for the life of him right now. The fact that it's full of a cute cat also doesn't help with identification, probably, but oh well...)]
I'd say it certainly does. These are some very nice pictures, did it take awhile to get him sitting still or is he actually a more lazy sort like that?
[THE FACT THAT THIS IS A MISFIRE WILL ALSO BE ADDRESSED EVENTUALLY...PROBABLY.....but right now the topic is cats and that's too important to gloss over right off the bat okay]
[Neatly penned on a white envelope is your name, and inside of it is an invitation! Trimmed with ribbon and gold lace, it's obviously a pretty fancy affair.
Sorey has written something inside, printed neatly.]
Mr. Aizawa,
If you need any help with outfits or transportation, let me or Mikleo know.
I hope to see you there!
Sorey
FINALLY arrives with...basically a frozen block of starbucks at this point s m h
[This message crops up in Sorey's Retrospec inbox shortly after Aizawa's received the invitation, some morning a few days after they're mailed out.]
To be honest this isn't actually very surprising at all, the more I think about it. You two were practically attached at the hip all the time in high school, isn't that right?
[Aizawa no don't just leave it at that.......and he doesn't, the second part finally coming in after a minute or so.]
Well, but at least in the interest of formality. Congratulations to the two of you. Thanks for the invitation, as well...this was a bit surprising to find in the mail.
[Fortunately for Shouto this isn't one of Aizawa's after-class tutoring days, so he's home to answer the door when the knocking starts. He hasn't been here very long himself, honestly, and so when he opens the door he's still in his class wear, running a hand through hair he's literally just taken down, blinking blearily at...oh. It's Shouto.
It's been a bit, hasn't it? Since they've gotten to talk properly. Outside of a class setting. October had been a disaster and a half in multiple different ways, and then in November...well, at least it's been a few days now since Shouto abruptly "returned" in all his punk-haired familiarity, so this is. Moderately less jarring. But it's still a bit...]
...Well, this is timely. [So he says, at length, before the startled pause after he opens the door can stretch out to the point of being particularly awkward.] Something going on, Shouto? Or... [Ah. Last time something had definitely been going on, but last time Shouto hadn't been carrying--some kind of tin, either, which he's doing now. Aizawa blinks down at it.] ...What's that?
now specifically speaking - baren's enough of a cagey bastard that he doesn't like to give his number to people. it's the one useful thing about retrospec, a way to contact them without having to compromise his personal cell phone number. and he distantly remembers running into aizawa on zoro's houseboat, back when the houseboat existed
and he realizes - oh, did anyone tell him?
well if not, here's how he's going to find out:
an otherwise unexplained photo of a hospital room decorated for christmas. there's a little christmas tree with a bunch of ugly ornaments, paper snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, and amidst the holly jolly mess, there's zoro's comatose body with reindeer antlers and a red rudolph nose
[Look, last month in general has been an extremely busy and tired blur for Aizawa--small blessings that most of the busyness was on account of Normal life obligations in November, too, nothing Retrospec-related the way October's series of preoccupying disasters had been. December hasn't treated him much more kindly either, so far, between the end of classes for the term fast approaching and his Mystery Eye Affliction starting to act up. Combined with the fact that Aizawa isn't a terribly social person on good days, and well...sometimes things fall through the cracks. Like the fact that he hasn't seen a certain acquaintance in a little while.
So no, it's true, he doesn't actually know Zoro's in a coma. And nobody's actually told him as much yet--until now, anyway.
Kind of.....
Things you don't expect to find on your phone when you're just going about your day minding your own business: a picture, unprompted, of somebody you know in a room that you don't know. Christmas cheer practically drips off the image. Zoro is...asleep? Aizawa stops short, and spends a decent few seconds squinting at his phone, ignoring the stares passerby are making at the expression on his face.
There's no context here, but there is a sender's name attached to the image, and so Aizawa thinks he can glean together exactly what's going on here. At length:]
Thanks? I don't remember ever asking for this, exactly, but I suppose I'll go ahead and save it for future potential blackmailing anyhow.
